As we’re living the last days of 2021, this is the ideal moment to take our time and reflect on what we’ve accomplished so far. At the same time, we’re celebrating the one year of beterre and it was the occasion for us to thank our dear community. We are beyond grateful for having such a kind and supportive community. New Year means also new resolutions to kick off the year with more healthy and sustainable habits. So here are 5 easy resolutions to start a beterre 2022 year!
1. Clean your house and get rid of (plastic) waste
You’re wondering how to start a sustainable New Year? You can start by getting your home rid of superfluous things. That way, you will be able to get rid of unnecessary items and sell them if you no longer need them. Or you could also give them a new life by offering them to someone who needs them.
2. Recycle more
We can always do beterre and improve ourselves even when it comes to recycling. So next year, you can do your best to recycle more. The easiest way to do so is to first reduce the amount of waste you produce. Also, things don’t necessarily have to end up in the trash. Think about re-purposing an object to give it a second life. Also, if you never composted before it’s time for you to try.
3. Keep refusing single use
Taking new resolutions can also mean keep having good habits. Indeed, in 2022, we’ll keep refusing single-use (plastic) items. Plastic waste is a huge issue for our planet which is why it’s important to replace items with reusable & green alternatives. Of course, you can do it step by step and each time replace a plastic item with its sustainable alternative. We started with reusable bottles, but there are so many things that can be replaced such as bottled shampoos, razors, lighters, …
4. Reduce your food waste/consumption
Especially when it comes to New Year, after eating so many good things, the first resolution that seems to be obvious is reducing your food waste. Planning your meals can help you buy less, buying in bulk too. Also, think about buying plastic-free wrapped packets. You could even try the “Veganuary”. This 31-day challenge can help you have a more sustainable lifestyle and it will have a positive impact on both your health and the planet.
5. Sensitize people while admiring Nature
This year, try a maximum to make people aware of the environmental issues and sensitize people around you, especially kids as they are the hope for our future. To do so, talk to them about Nature while admiring it.
For instance, you can enjoy the beauty of Nature and go to parks, beaches or just admire your backyard. Take the time to appreciate the sunlight in the morning, the fresh air, and feel the grass under your fit. By doing this, you will be even more motivated to protect our environment. It will brighten your day and make you realize that even though we’re just a small part of the world, we DO have the potential to make a big impact.
